When a traffic violation occurs, the officer captures details such as:
- Vehicle registration number
- Driver’s license number
- Type of violation (e.g., speeding, no helmet, etc.)
- Location and time of the violation
Once the challan is issued, the vehicle owner receives an SMS notification on their registered mobile number. The challan details are also updated on the E-Challan portal, where citizens can check and pay their fines.

- Visit the Official E-Challan Portal
- Click on “Check Challan Status”
- Enter Required Details
- Click on “Get Details”

How to Pay Your E-Challan Online
If you find that a challan has been issued against your vehicle, you can pay the fine online without any hassle. Here’s how:
- Click on “Pay Now” : After checking your challan status, click on the Pay Now” button next to the challan details.
- Verify Your Mobile Number : An OTP (One-Time Password) will be sent to your registered mobile number. Enter the OTP to proceed with the payment.
- Choose Payment Method : You’ll be redirected to the payment gateway of your state’s transport department. Here, you can choose your preferred payment method, such as:
- Net Banking
- UPI (Unified Payments Interface)
- Digital Wallets (e.g., Paytm, PhonePe)
- Complete the Payment : Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the payment. Once the payment is successful, you’ll receive a confirmation message.
- Download the Receipt : After payment, you can download the payment receipt for your records. This receipt serves as proof of payment and can be useful in case of any disputes.
